Abstract

The case studies carried out within two research intensive institutions - Cambridge University and the University of Glasgow - as part of Workpackage 3 of the OCRIS project, presented an opportunity to discuss in depth many of the issues addressed by the project and which confront the professionals who work, as a matter of course, with LMSs, OPACs and IRs as they attempt to meet the challenges facing academic libraries when providing an integrated e-infrastructure for research. A key goal of the Case Studies was to discern how the systems under examination relate to the wider agendas and priorities of the institutions to which they belong, and what were their actual or perceived roles in terms of institutional mission, research strategy, administrative requirements, and the curation/preservation of university publications and other research output. Further consideration was also given as to how such issues impact on library resources, workflows and staff development.
